Entrepreneurship Is Perfect for Unhappy Employees

by Debi Auger

Welcome to Part 5 of my "Entrepreneurship is Perfect for..." Series

Are you an unhappy employee? Dreaming of the day you can tell your boss to "Shove It!" and just get the hell outta there? If so, entrepreneurship may be the way.

PARADE Magazine and Yahoo! Finance surveyed 26,000 Americans and found out that 60% were unhappy with their career and would've chosen a different one! SIXTY percent... wow! In this economy, you'd expect anyone who has a job would be happy, but that's evidently not the case. And what makes it worse is that most people are also going to need to keep working well into their 70's.

I simply cannot see the point in spending years and years working at a job or career that made me unhappy. Are you one of the unlucky ones stuck in that scenario? I hope not. But if you are, entrepreneurship may be an alternative for you. If you think starting a business could be the right move for you, the perfect way to find out is to give it a shot part-time while you still have your job to pay the bills.

Some people call that "chicken entrepreneurship" but actually it's a very smart way to give it a go. It gives you a chance to decide what you'd like to do, learn what you need to learn and get started; all at your own pace while you still have a safety net. You can start in your spare time and work at it until you reach the point where your business can replace the income from your job. Then you can take great pleasure in handing in the letter of resignation that's been sitting on your hard drive for the last few years ;)

It's always better to work at something you truly enjoy. If you like your career and just hate your job (or hate working for someone else) and it's something that lends itself to self-employment, you could venture out on your own doing what you're doing now. If you're an accountant for example, instead of working for someone else, you could choose to freelance on your own, or open up your own accounting firm.

You may have a hobby that you'd like to turn into a business. Something like jewelry design, painting, woodcraft, etc.

You may want to try something completely different than anything you've done before. It's ok. Be adventurous. You only live once so you might as well take the time to figure out what will make you happy; especially since you can take your time with your decision. Even better if you can find something you enjoy so much that you'll never want too retire!

You don't need to be an artisan to take this course. It's a lifestyle business planning course in which I'll be doing Niche Selection Workshops for those who aren't sure exactly what they want to do/offer. So, if you think it's something that might interest you, stop over and learn more about the Program. But don't wait... registration closes at 12am on Thursday morning. I hope to see you there :)

And if you have any friends or colleagues you think might be interested in the Program, please share with them as well. I'd appreciate any help spreading the word :)

Much Success,
